VERMILION -- The whistles of trains through Vermilion have become
a deafening wail due to increase train traffic, but soon Vermilion
residents will get some respite.U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Toledo, joined
Vermilion Mayor Jean Anderson yesterday to announce the grant.
The city will use the money to help pay for ''quad gates'' at four
crossings, so that the trains will no longer have to blast their warning
whistles. Vermilion has five street-railroad intersections, with those
at Perry, Adams, Grand and Main streets very close together.
''I am pleased to honor this commitment to a more livable
community,'' Kaptur said. ''I applaud the city and its concerned
citizens for working together toward a solution that will result in a
safer, more peaceful community.''
